Casa Coralillo was built entirely from bamboo, with a bamboo structure and stuccoed covering in the hot climate of Monterrico. This design takes maximum advantage of smaller areas, with an open social area that includes spaces for living, cooking and dining. The private area is composed of 2 bedrooms and a shared bathroom. The roof of the house is built on 2 slants, with a higher-than-normal height to allow for a mezzanine loft over the bathrooom to be used as a study, or an additional bedroom. The house has ample windows in each facade, in order to bring in the maximum natural light and ventilation – allowing all spaces to be fresh and comfortable. Like every CASSA home, it integrates all elements of sustainability: rainwater capture, water cistern for storage, pump for redistribution inside the house, solar panels that produce clean and free electricity, LED lighting, gray water separation and reutilization in a family garden, and an underground black water treatment system.
