Built on a cliffside, this was a construction challenge that was embedded into the inclined terrain. The construction of this home took advantage of the large rocks that were found on site to crush up and build stone walls for the first storey, and the second storey was built entirely out of bamboo, cured to last a lifetime, stuccoed on the outside and varnished on the inside. The combination of natural builiding materials creates a warmer and comfortable environment. Like every CASSA home, it integrates all elements of sustainability: rainwater capture, water cistern for storage, pump for redistribution inside the house, solar panels, LED lighting, efficient smokeless stove, gray water separation and reutilization in a family garden, and an underground black water treatment system.
